Stamping over a glitter base!

Hey y'all!

Tonight on the blog, I have some stamping nail art for you!

I wasn't super happy with how this came out because the stamping isn't very visible over the glitter base. The idea was good I think, but the execution was poor.

Here's what I used:

Lots of polishes! From left to right, Essie Protein Base, Zoya Tilda, Zoya Staasi, Zoya Jesi, Zoya Binx, Zoya Willa, and Seche Vite.

I started with the base coat, and once that was dry I put Zoya Tilda on my index, pinkie, and thumb. I did two coats of Tilda and then topped with Seche Vite. Moving on to the middle fingers, I sponged on Staasi, Jesi, and Binx with a makeup sponge. I went over each nail 3 times to achieve opacity. I wish I had taken a picture of how it looked before I stamped it because it was so pretty!

After my glitter based had dried most of the way, I stamped with Zoya Willa over it using Cici&Sisi plate #8. Here's a macro of the stamping. You can see the details better here:

Overall, I liked the mani, it just didn't turn out the way I had pictured in my head. I decided to share anyway because I made a promise to myself that I would share my fails as well as my wins.

Do you have a mani that didn't turn out the way you wanted?

  4. I've had loads of manis not turn out right and even if it is still pretty I will be unhappy with it. I love how all these polishes look together though :)

  5. Oooh butterflies! Stamping over glitter can sometimes be tricky. If your stamping polish isn't opaque enough, or the design bold enough, it gets lost among the glitter. Maybe if you matte it it might show up better.

  6. Do you have issues with the Essie base coat getting super goopy when you get half way through the bottle? Mine got to a point where I couldn't even use it anymore and I still felt like there was a decent amount of base coat left in the bottle!

  7. Even if it didn't turn out the way you expected I still think it's cool and never would have known that you meant it to look different.

  8. It's such a charming mani, I love it :) I have my own "duds" all the time, and I've made the same promise to myself- always share! It's part of the learning process for everyone, I think.

  13. Even tho the actual stamping design got a bit lost in the glitter, it still looks great, almost like an abstract painting with splashed black!

  17. I like this! I love that you also share the ones you're not happy with. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, and I firmly believe that people need to see that. It encourages them to keep going. :)

    1. Thank you Amy! I know when I was first starting out, I felt intimidated when comparing myself to others because there work was always perfect so I like to share my "fails" so that someone else might not feel alone in theirs. :)
