Swatch and Review: Lolita Lacquer Spicy Sauce Duo

Hey y'all! Today on the blog I am sharing a new duo from Lolita Lacquer that consists of two jelly polishes inspired by two delicious salsas - Salsa Roja and Salsa Verde. I personally love jelly polishes when they're done well. They are definitely one of my favorite finishes. Anytime I get nail mail that includes jellies, I feel suddenly conflicted - excited because I love them but also anxious that they won't be opaque enough or the formula won't be good. Surely I can't be the only one who worries about these things! My overall review for both of these polishes is that they are really nice. Both have a two coat formula with complete opacity, leaving no VNL (visible nail line) behind. I'll show you the individual polishes and tell you how they each performed.

Salsa Roja is an orange toned red jelly filled with various sized glitter. This is my favorite shade of red for the summer because its warm toned so it looks great with other summery shades. Its my favorite color to put on my toes in the warmer months! Salsa Roja had a very typical jelly-like formula as far as thickness goes (a tad on the thicker side) but was almost opaque in one coat. I did add a second coat to add depth and even out any places that needed more polish on the nail. I had no issues getting the glitter evenly dispersed on my nail. Salsa Roja dries to a semi-gloss finish on its own and has a bit of texture from the larger glitter but that's easily remedied with a topcoat. My swatch shows two coats plus topcoat.

Salsa Verde

Salsa Verde is my favorite type of salsa. True story - something about the tomatillos is just so savory and when it has a bit of a kick from added jalapeƱos...oh man. Its 8:30 in the morning right now and I'm contemplating going to the grocery store for some tomatillos...

Anyway, we're not here to talk about me cooking, y'all wanna know about the polish! Salsa Verde (the polish) is a cool toned, emerald green jelly polish filled with various sizes of holographic glitters. I don't usually gravitate towards green polishes but this one actually looked nice against my skin and seems like a great green to incorporate into summer nail art. I kind of want to stamp neon designs over it! The formula was thinner than Salsa Roja's formula but still on the thicker side. This one also wasn't as opaque on the first coat and I thought I would actually need three coats. I wound up dabbing a little extra glitter along the tip of my nail on the second coat and that rounded it out nicely. Salsa Verde dries to a semi-gloss finish on its own and has a little texture like Salsa Roja but again, easily remedied by a topcoat. My swatch shows two coats plus topcoat.

If you're interested in picking up this duo - it launches tomorrow April 22nd at 9am PST in the Lolita Lacquer store. The polishes are $9 each or $16 for the duo. You can also follow Lolita Lacquer on Instagram for more information on this and future releases!
