Monthly Indie Spotlight Series: Meet The Maker Behind M Polish!

Hey y'all! Today on the blog I have a very special post to share with you. I have decided to start a monthly series on my blog called Indie Spotlight where I will be interviewing different indies that I love each month. I got the idea after seeing a blogger friend of mine do a similar series (check out Amanda's posts on Polish and Plates and The Little Beauty Guide!). I love reading her posts so I thought you guys might enjoy reading mine. Keep reading after the break to see my interview with Megan, creator and owner of M Polish, along with a behind the scenes peek of her making some polish!

Pish:  What inspired you to start M Polish? Why  stamping polish brand vs traditional polish?

Megan: I started playing with polish just for myself.  I love tinkering and testing, which transitioned into wanting to make polishes that stamp.  I am a stamping addict and enjoy the challenge of creating polishes that work for stamping.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pish: How do you decide what to do for future collections?
Megan: I have a million ideas floating around my head and I test like crazy.  I generally try to create polishes that I would want to use.  I want to create things that are fun, but also easy to use.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pish: What goes into the testing/prototype phase?

Megan: SO MUCH!!  I spend months testing polishes before they are ever released.  I have several Helmer drawers full of prototypes that are either in the testing phase, have been shelved permanently, or are awaiting their moment in the spotlight.  I generally mix a small batch of anything I am testing.  Depending on what I am thinking for a collection, I will send polishes (sometimes more than a dozen) to my fabulous testers Caroline (@thepolishedperspective) and Carmen (@ineedamani).  They test for me and give feedback on what they thought worked and what didn't.  From there polishes get shelved, or tested further, or queued up for release!  Testing, tinkering, and perfecting is so important!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pish: How do you come up with the names of your polishes?
Megan: It depends -- sometimes I have a direction I want to go with, and sometimes I'm stumped, so I take suggestions!  For my upcoming collection, I have a few ideas, but haven't settled on anything just yet!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pish: What do you think makes M Polish such a success?

Megan:  I would like to think it is all the work I do behind the scenes testing and testing until each polish meets my standards.  I am a big believer that it is better to get something done right, than get it done fast.  So I try to work methodically and ensure I am turning out the best possible product for my customers!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pish: I know you work by day and make polish by night. What drives you to keep going with M Polish?
Megan: I love tinkering!  I think it is absolutely amazing that my little creations are being used by women in some many beautiful manis.  I am so often blown away seeing my polish on other people's nails!  It is very humbling!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pish: Can you give us a behind the scenes peek where M Polish is made?

Megan:I'll take some pics when I get home from work.  My space is a disaster right now, because I am in the middle of mixing for the next release.  I'm attaching a pic I took yesterday after I was mixing up black and red for the next collection.  I am a very messy worker.

Testing/mixing station for M Polish!

This is where M Polish is packed and labeled!

And Megan herself, direct quote: "One of me rocking my respirator, safety first!"

There you have it guys! I love knowing more about the brands that I purchase and this was a really fun process for me personally to learn so much about M Polish.

What do you think about posts like this? Which brands would you like to see in my monthly indie spotlight series?

Thanks for reading!
