Swatch and Review: M Polish You Are My Symphony

Hey y'all! Today on the blog I have a super special post to share with you! If you remember a month or so ago, I posted about Kent Hills, my sister's boyfriend who had a stroke at the very young age of 16. I am happy to report that Kent is on the mend and getting better every day! I kept asking myself how I could involve the nail community that I love so much to help the family in some way and decided to ask Megan from M Polish if she would make a charity polish for Kent. She agreed and helped us create this beautiful custom, You Are My Symphony. My sister wanted a black-red polish with subtle holo shimmer and that's exactly what Megan created for us. The name comes from Kent telling my sister that their relationship is like a symphony. (Barf alert!) So let me quit rambling and show you the polish!

You Are My Symphony looks red in the bottle, but more black on the nail except in certain lights. While the holo is subtle, it adds something special to the polish when the light catches it. The red pays homage to the red stroke survivor ribbon in addition to being one of Kent's favorite colors. You Are My Symphony is a stamping polish primarily but can be easily used as a regular polish as well and will be opaque in one coat as a regular polish. I had no issues with application or self leveling when I used it as a regular polish. Stamping with it, I had no issues with pick up or patchiness of the image. Each image was crisp and clean using my Creative Shop Stamper and the Cici&Sisi Holiday 2014 plate. I stamped it here over Lorelei Lacquer Laugh Often and topcoated with KBShimmer Clearly On Top fast dry topcoat.

Megan has graciously agreed to pay 50% of the proceeds from each bottle sold of You Are My Symphony directly to a GoFundMe set up for Kent by his family. You Are My Symphony is extremely limited edition, only 150 bottles total have been poured and it will not be restocked. If you'd like to pick up a bottle, it launches today at Noon CST at mpolishes.com! And if you'd like to donate directly to Kent's GoFundMe (to help with medical and recovery expenses), please click HERE

Tribute nail art: #blueandredforkent

Good afternoon, y'all. Today's post isn't something I normally do, but I have to share a story with you along with my mani. This post may be upsetting to some, a "trigger" as we call it in the online world, so if you are very sensitive to sadder stories, you may want to click away. My hope, however is that you stick around to read and possibly share this story with everyone.

This story is about Kent - your pretty typical 16 year old boy. He hates to clean his room, loves to play video games, loves his family, loves legos, and loves music. He has a mom and dad, a baby sister, a girlfriend, and a best friend. He goes to school and is so smart! He participates in JROTC at school and one of his dreams is to enlist in the military after high school. His favorite colors are blue and red.

On Friday, October 9th, Kent was complaining of a migraine during PT with his JROTC class and collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors confirmed what was already feared - he had suffered a stroke. Kent is an otherwise healthy boy, there were never any indicators that this could or would happen. It shouldn't have happened, but now he lies in an Eggleston Pediatric ICU fighting for his life. He's had many procedures done so far to try and help him towards the road to recovery and to keep him comfortable while he gets better. With a few bumps in the road, his family and friends are desperately hoping and praying that Kent will return to them very soon. Please, please keep him in your warm and loving thoughts and prayers.

My sister is the girlfriend I mentioned. I wanted to do something special for her and for Kent's family in his honor to spread awareness and to get as many people involved in the healing thoughts as possible. I decided to do a mani for him, in hopes that the nail community would join in and several absolutely have! If you've done a mani for Kent, THANK YOU. Thank you! Kent's favorite color is red, and he loves to pair blue with it. Music is one of his most favorite things in the world because he feels like its his easiest and most effective form of communication. I have combined those things into the mani for him.

I used Lollipop Posse Lacquer Slipping Out Of Time and But I Haven't Met You Yet as my base colors. Once the base was dry, I stamped with M Polish To Have And To Holo for the "Faith Hope Love" image from UberChic Beauty plate 3-01. I added a ribbon from the same plate using M Polish I Need A Vacation. Then I stamped Pish Plashin' Around using Cici&Sisi plate number 12 for the music notes. I topped everything with Seche Vite.

If you took the time to read this and possibly share it, thank you from the bottom of my heart. As a parent, I can only begin to imagine how Kent's parents are feeling. And the pain I feel for them extends to every inch of my heart. If you have time to include him in your thoughts or prayers, I just know his mother would be eternally grateful.

Thanks for reading,
